I have a 2001 Cobra that I got recently. It's pretty much all stock other than Magnaflow mufflers, track/street Hawk brake pads, and 1995 Cobra R wheels, 285 in front and 295 in rear.

I've been working hard all summer and think I it's about time for some upgrades before I leave for school.

I was thinking about a getting few things.
1. BBK off road xpipe
2. Short Throw Shifter (thoughts on which one?)
3. Cold Air Intake

Please share your thoughts, remarks, reprimands, and funny stories. Lol!

Pro 5.0 shifter
Full exhaust system from magnaflow or BBK
CAI

That is a good start you will feel the difference no doubt But you should keep in mind a tuner as well once you change exhaust you will want rear 02 sensors off plus the additional added bonuses of a tune

I'd skip the CAI and maybe just get a K&N filter.

If staying NA, I'd get a March damper and pulley set instead of CAI.

Then I'd start saving for at least MM or Stiffler FLSFC.

Here you go:
NASVT fixed!!!
General consensus for NA ~320 RWHP with 99-01 DOHC C-Head 4.6L:
K&N filter
OEM Cams
March damper
March hydraboost and WP pulleys
Long tubes
Hi Flow Cats/Cat Delete mid-pipe
Tune (canned..more $ for real tuner tune)

I've even seen ~330 RWHP if your OEM cams are degreed dead on...which is luck of the draw at assembly, as they are assembled by the brass chain links.

As I understand it, this is the reason some get 265 and some get 270+ RWHP stock.

Just having the cams off by a bit makes a difference.

360-370 RWHP:
106060 comp cams properly degreed.
short runner
Tune

What's the advantage of a K&N filter over a CAI?

I won't be doing super or turbo for a while.

What's March Damper and MM or Stiffler FLSFC?

CAI adds little, if anything, to add power...most HP add comes with a K&N filter or something similar...and again adds little HP.

Engine crank fluid damper and UDP (under drive pulley) set

MM Maximum Motorsports or Stifflers Full Length Subframe Connectors.
They help stiffen up the chassis because our cars only have front and rear frames connected by sheetmetal in between.
Road Racers RR call this center section "the pie tin" or "the fifth spring" as it flexes and affects the cars handling.

Below are my mods..they are pretty much standard mods for a lot of folks here.
No HP mods yet!
But I've done my homework.

Welcome to the community BTW.
You're on track with a shifter first and subframe connectors soon..
Enjoy each mod as you go...!!

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I plan on getting some 3.73 or 4.10 gears before long. But for now I'll just do a off road xpipe, K&N air filter, shifter, and maybe a tuner. If anyone has any of these for sale then PM me. Otherwise American muscle here I come. Haha

Is that just for 99/01 cobras? My brother had a terminator and I could tell a difference when he got an acufab throttle body.

99/01 and 03/04 are completely different when it comes to mods like that. Cold air and Throttle Body do nothing for the 99/01 but do help on the 03/04. My car did better with a K&N than it did with a JLT.

Like the others have said, K&N is the best option for the intake, long tubes, gears, March Pulley's and tune will wake the car up a good bit.

The 99/01 cobra formula:

K&N filter in stock intake
MGW shifter
H&R lowering springs
Exhaust midpipe & catback / headders if you have the money
(4.10) Gears & frpp diff cover (do both at the same time, change fuel filter while there even if its newish)
Tune for all changes

Take it up a notch :
Full FTBR irs bushing kit
MM Tubular K member front suspension
Steeda sway bars
Wider rims (03 cobras or anniversary wheels look great on these cars)

K&N filter over the CAI. I wish I went that route instead of the CAI. Pro 5.0 for the shifter and if you want get one of CobraBob's gaskets for it. That will allow you to avoid using the sealant on the shifter mount. SCT tuners can be had from any tuner. Just call them up and order one. Tell them the car and the mods and they will send you a base tune. Putting the car on the dyno is the only way to get it exact, but will cost more. You can probably pick up a used X pipe. Since you want off road buying used shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not damaged or rusting out.

Gears would be a great choice, but to buy them and install would probably cost more than the mods you want to do combined. If you ever plan on doing more mods then I'd wait for the gears to be sure the ratio you pick are the right ones for you setup.

Thanks for the quick detailed responses guys.

Pro 5.0 or MGW shifter? I've heard nothing but good about both.
