What radar detector are you running?

I have had a V1 for years. No matter what anyone says, the arrows and counter are worth it. I'll never go back. For example, roll past a trooper shooting at you. Fine. Then right after you pass him, it goes off again. Is that the same unit you're detecting or another trooper a little farther down the road. Without the arrows you won't know for sure, but between the arrows and the counter, you'll know if it's the same one you just passed or another one up ahead working with him (it would light up with arrows ahead plus behind and the counter will say "2").

That being said, it's not perfect. Here in Georgia, troopers sometimes use instant on. I have seen troopers and slowed down BEFORE the V1 went off. And when they use LASER, it becomes a "ticket detector". And when you pass him by, it might take a few seconds for the arrow to switch from ahead to the sides to behind. The laser will light up if he shoots people beside you or even the guy ahead. But if you're alone, it will light up at the same time he tracks you. In that case, only a jammer will save you, maybe.

In addition, adaptive cruise control on Lexus and Infinity will set off the laser detector. I have a high end Garmin GPS and it's remote will also set off the laser detection as well as red LED 3rd brake lights on GM plus others. I've also had red LED signs set it off, but only when pointed right at them and very close by (like pulling into a parking space).

Still, the V1 is an excellent detector. I'd do it again.

I purchased an Escort 9500ix within the past 6 months and love it. Picks up radar over 2 miles away, around corners, and over "hills." Locks out false alarms automatically or manually at your discretion, also lets you know your speed when the radar goes off as it has built in GPS. Another function the gps enables is setting known speedtraps and it warns of redlight and speed cameras. Escort provides monthly updates to said cameras for download to the unit so you are armed with the most up to date info.

V1 and don't look back. Never lets me down.

I actually did side by side tests with my friends Escort on a long road trip once. The V1 picked up a good 1/4 mile sooner on Ka band.

Just remember its an aid and not fool proof. Don't get too dependent on it. You still have to use your eyes and common sense.

I got the 9500ci with the ZR4 laser shifters. I have not gotten a ticket since I installed it. And I have been lasered on the highway while speeding. The shifters give you enough time ti get back down to the PSL before you turn them off. Check your local laws, as some states do not allow them.

It does take time to install and it's expensive but it is the creme de la creme! Will never run anything else.

Has anyone used the k40 electronics radar detector? My car came with it installed but I don't know much, or can't find much about it.

I've used the k40 in my parents' BMW. They installed it at the stealership. Seems to me it's pretty much an analouge of the 9500ci. I haven't seen any direct comparisons however. The only thing I like less about the K40 is the fact that you have to use the remote for changing the settings. Small nitpick but I prefer the hard mounted buttons.

I didn't even get the remote with mine.......

So is this detector a really good one then? As in it really will help avoid tickets.

My V1 has easily paid for itself many times over.

It does warn me of drug stores though. And other radar detectors. That's annoying.
