What Can I Do With The Stock Block?

I am getting ready to add some nitrous to my 04 cobra. I have read that the stock pistons are a weak point in our engines. So if I have them replaced what else should I do the stock block to prepare it for a couple hundred horses of nitrous oxide?

bore it .020 over and use either JE or cp dimond pistions, the stock rods should not need to upgraded. Or you could just get a new block from VT engines.

I'd save that money on a new short block and just have the stock bores cleaned up. (.010 or .020 overbore)
You have a wide variety on which pistons you choose.
(CP, JE, Diamond, Manley, Probe, Ross, Mahle, DSS, Prox, Speed Pro...)

You can do your piston of choice, block bore out, ARP 2000 rod bolts, new oil pump gears cryo treated, all the miscellanious installed for around $4,500-$5,000 done right.

Just some new short blocks alone cost that.

It is cheaper and easier to sell your working shortblock to someone for $2000-2500, then use that money towards a $4000-5000 built shortblock from someone like MPH, VT, MMR, etc. That is exactly what I did.

The costs for parts and R&R of your shortblock quickly add up if you're having an experienced Modular shop perform the work. I seriously doubt you will get someone to build your shortblock with all the good stuff, and disassemble/reassemble the longblock, and pull/install the engine for $5k. If someone would do it for that price, I would be a very curious.

I know who HPP is, but that is rediculously cheap. Certainly sounds like one hell of a deal if all of the details are covered!

Yeah, it sounded good to me also.
Forgot about selling your stock block. I guess if you found a buyer for that than a new short block maybe the best option.
Ike, what all did you do on your build up?

Our stock shortblocks are a hot ticket item for non-Terminator owners looking for a quick and easy way to support 400-500rwhp. The guy that bought mine used it for exactly that. He even came to pick it up. If you wait until you damage something, then this option goes out the windown. The highlights of my shortblock include:

Teksid aluminum block 0.020" over
Kellog forged steel crank
Manley H-beam rods w/ ARP2000 bolts
Ross custom blower pistons
ARP main and head studs
HO pump w/ billet gears
Canton oil pan w/ windage tray
All new bearings, seal, etc.

No idea on install. I do everything myself. Seems like the shortblock build cost a little over $4k, including the accessories like oil pan, billet pump gears, and fastener upgrades. All of my receipts are at home.

Good stuff I think I am going to work on pulling my short block and get a built one. I have a beater to drive so this should work out.
