I am looking to build a 351W to put in my 79 Mustang Cobra. I was wondering what year and block number should I be looking for that would make BIG hp numbers? any suggestions on the motor and what kind of vehicle I can find them in would be a big help.

Thanks

You will want as much cubes as possible if your talking 600rwhp,a 225cc trickflow or afr head, big custom roller cam, 10:5 1 compression to 12:5 1 compression on a 393-408,427 or 428 stroker to get 600rwhp esp if you want a streetable motor, otherwise it will be very horrible down low power high revving race motor to make 600rwhp n/a.

now if your talking 600 crank horsepower, for istance, I kno a guy who ran a 393 windsor with afr 205heads fully ported, custom big roller cam, with a ford racing block 11:5 1 compression and I think it put down 500rwhp and almost 600rwtq.

The 69-74 blocks are the "strongest" but for 600whp any 351W block will do, hell the stock crank and football rods will hold 600hp. There have been people run 1000 hp on the "weak" 351w blocks so if you main goal is only 600whp then dont go otu of your way to find a 69-74, just pick up any 351W block and have at it. Like stated above your going to need MAX cubes and BIG heads for that kind of NA power.

I'm running a 408W using an 83 block, scat forged crank and rods, forged pistons, Vic jr heads, BIG hydraulic cam, vic jr intake, Holley 850 double pumper carb with 12.5/1 compression and im making about 520bhp at sea level NA. Apart from getting some AFR225's and porting the intake I cant get much more extreme and not have to run C16 or alcohol.

Are you going carb? If so I have a 100-175hp wet fogger kit that I have decided not to use, that will definitely get you the 600whp you want. Let me know if you would be interested.

check this site out, there is a lot of 351W info on there along with casting #'s etc.
