So, today when I took my truck up to a family friends to get new ball joints installed, I stumbled upon 2 1987 GNXs. I thought someone on here might like them. I didn't get the build numbers on either, but the one in the first picture looked completely immaculate and looked as if it had under 10k miles.

Sweet!!! There is a guy in Burlington, NC who collects GNs and GNXs. Last I head, he had 12 GNs and 4 GNXs. One of the GNXs still has the plastics on the seats and 11 miles!!!!!!!

What are the differences between a GNX and a GN other than the cosmetic stuff?

What are the differences between a GNX and a GN other than the cosmetic stuff?

McLaren tuned suspension:
pan-hard bar instead of 4 link
lighter rims that are front and rear specific
wider tires (same spec as 87 Corvette)
rear seat bracing
tuned ECM
more efficient turbo with ceramic impeller
larger up-pipe
more efficient intercooler
trans cooler
functional louvers in front fenders
diff exhaust to clear rear suspension
02 sensors are AFS-22 rather than AFS-20

So all that plus what you got with the GN package which had the following over a regular 3.8 regal:
larger anti-roll bars
aluminum hood and trunk lid (optional on GN)
Recalibrated 200-r4 trans (same as all 87 and 88 G-bodies)
full front end bracing (rad support x brace, fender to core support, and fender to firewall brace)
front frame bracing
higher ration steering box
aside from the obvious 3.8 turbo motor, etc...

I was lucky enough to own one when the intercooled version first came out in 86. It was definitely the fastest living room ever built.

The dealer we bought it from offered us the chance to buy a GNX they had coming in at sticker, which was $25k. My dad nearly had a conniption fit and said that was crazy, $25,000 for a car. Looking back, I wish I had done more to talk him into that investment.

Brother in law has an 87'. Bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, and tune with meth injection. Steeper gears, looser converter, I am sure I'm missing some things. I think he would hand me my ass in a race. Thing will PLANT you in the seat hard! The small picture below is of my old 91' foxbody with twin turbos. Both of them were stock gn turbos, one of them came from his car when he upgraded!
