Anyone know why the 2011 Mustang weighs about 250 pounds more the 2010? I know the 2011 has electric power steering and new engines. So what gives:shrug:

2010 GT Premium 2dr Coupe, Curb Weight: 3401 lbs. 2011 GT Premium 2dr Coupe, Curb Weight: 3603 lbs. These numbers are from Edmunds.

Other then the 2011 has electric power steering, NO power steering pump, belt, pulley and resevor where is the additional weight comming from?

Those are Mustang GT Weight Numbers. Not Shelby GT500 Specs.

FYI, you will be surprised of the actual weight of a Mustang, it will differ slightly lower than the advertised Curb Weight. My old 2003 Cobra weighed 50 pounds lower than the advertised Curb Weight. There are many factors. However I did have a Full tank of fuel.

Here are direct links to specs from Edmunds for the GT500 - 2011, 2010 and for comparision purposes the 2008. I see the alum. block difference for the 2011......

2011 - 3820 lbs.

2011 Ford Shelby GT500 specs, auto safety at Edmunds

2010 - 3924 - lbs.

2010 Ford Shelby GT500 specs, auto safety at Edmunds

2008 - 3920 lbs.

2008 Ford Shelby GT500 specs, auto safety at Edmunds

Last but not least, a "curb weight" definition from Wikipedia, so we know what is being weighed........

Kinda like how Car and Drivers 2011 PP weighed in at 3,751

My next question would be, did this 3,751 2011 PP had a full tank of fuel? or if it came to Car and Driver from the last magazine who tested it with less than a full tank. I know from first hand experience at Mustang Monthly and Mustang and Fords that the fuel is the magazines issue and the car is on loan for a specific period of time and then on to the next magazine for testing. Only on a few occasions did the cars have a full tank when they were received for testing. At 6.50 or so pounds per gallon, 10 gallons would take 80 lbs.+ off of a vehicle easily. If Edmunds quotes 3820 for a 2011, my first question would be what options are on the 2011? Then, if it weighed in a 3750 or so, I would guess that it had less than a full tank of fuel (curb weight). Another question would be, "if" the tank was full when received, at what point in the magazine testing period was the car placed on the scale? later in the week when the car had been tested and fuel had been used?

3820 down to 3751 could easily be within the fuel window.

those who have weighed the 2011 posted much lighter weights

I wonder where the Edmunds figures come from? or why the Car and Driver weight was well within the + or - of fuel weight?

Usually, but not always, Ford (the manufacturer) provides the specs and the magazine publishes them. If this is the case, why would Ford make the car appear heavier than it really is? That would be defeating for sales........

My only guess is that the car(s) that were provided for testing to the magazines were fully option, big stereo GT500's, and some of the cars that you are refering to may be lesser expensive models that lack options? Then there could be this difference.

I would also guess that if the car was sitting on the scale and running on fumes, it could knock 100lbs.+ off of the weight? Most owners that I know would not bring their GT500 to the scales with a full tank, they are looking for low numbers, not heavy.

Not counting the weight of options, how much is the fuel capacity of a GT500 x 6.50lbs. or so per gallon?

*****Edmunds specs, 16 gallon fuel capacity x 6.50lbs. = 104lbs.******
