My birthday's coming up and I wanted to go somewhere with my girlfriend for the weekend of July 1st since we have a 3-day weekend. We were gonna do Boston since it's my home away from home, but she suggested Montreal since I like going new places and she's been a few times and loves it there. So I booked a hotel for Saturday through Monday and we're gonna drive up early Saturday morning and stay until Monday afternoon (6 hour drive so we'll probably get there around noon Saturday and leave later Monday).

Just wondering if anyone from the area or anyone who's been there has any suggestions on things to do that Saturday or Sunday. I would have liked to drive up Friday night after work to get the full day Saturday, but hotels weren't too cheap and we're in the process of moving into a new apartment, so the money saved will come in handy for apartment needs. We'll still get two nights of partying in, though. :D

Anyways, I'm big into music and particularly enjoy sipping on drinks listening to good jazz, blues, etc. And I pretty much just like walking around checking out new places. We're staying at Le Nouvel Hotel a few blocks from Crescent and St. Catherines because I got a good deal on the room. Tips?

Timing couldn't be better for you, from June 25th to July 4th is the International Jazz Festival of Montreal.

Check it out : Home - Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

There's the Montreal Old Port that has a bunch of stuff to look at or activities to do : Quays of the Old Port of Montreal

There's the "L’International des Feux Loto-Québec" (fireworks) that starts on June 25th, and on July 2nd there's the Czech Republic presentation : L'International des Feux Loto-Québec presented by TELUS

If it's your first time in Montreal, you have to walk around the Red light area (bordered by Sherbrooke to the north, St-Denis to the east, de Bleury to the west and the Old Montreal to the south) at night.

There's all kinds of stuff to do or visit, but nothing else comes to my mind right now....

PM me if you want to meet up and i'll be more than happy to show your way around.

Cheers,
J-P

IMO It's a dump, Very very Expensive. There are some decent night clubs and retaurants, Not mention some pretty decent gentlemens clubs (fyi, their private dance rooms are different than ours!) Look for Super Sex if your into that sorta thing lol.

Crescent street is good for night life. There is a ton of museums, a small amusment park and your girl will love the underground city! It's esentially a 4 floor underground mall that stretches like 5 or 6 city blocks. It actually is pretty cool.

They have a subway, I suggest you use it if your not taking your car because the cab drivers will rape you for sure.

Sorry I dont have much but I was only there with a bunch of dudes and we pretty much just partied the whole time there! Oh yeah there is a casino too.

I know its a bit further but Quebec is waaay better than Montreal. Montreal is very domestic (you will feel like your in Boston) but Quebec is very very French and it's basicaly an old fort that they cut some holes in to drive cars in and out. Awesome culture, the locals are super friendly. cobblestone roads, alot of hills, alot of shops and restaurants etc etc. Good luck and have fun.

Wow, nice to know i've been living in a dump for all my life :rollseyes

BTW, Super Sex is the dirtiest strip club downtown.... There's is ALOT (pretty much anything other than this dump) better place to go : Amazon, Chez Paré, Solid gold etc.

You are right though, Québec city is alot "cleaner" and people are more friendly than Montréal, but if there's something they'll never have on us...........is the pretty/sexy woman !!

I agree about the subway, use it. You'll drive yourself crazy driving around.

I didn't mean any disrespect, it just really wasn't what I was expecting. Your right, Solid Gold is where we ended up. We were told all this crap about SS and went there and it was gross so we ended up at SG.

As far as the girls go, I will also agree that there is a lot of hotties walking around there but I spent more time in Quebec and those little French honeys got me every time! "Kiss Kiss" ahhh gets me every time, so sweet!

Thanks for all the info, guys. Sounds like we're gonna have a pretty good time, especially considering we have a blast anywhere we go anyways. And I'm especially liking the looks of the jazz festival you pointed out. I notice there's a guitar show, as well, and since I'm a guitarist, that works perfectly for me.
