I hit a smaller bird a few years ago on the interstate and it made a horible noise hitting the windshield - it didn't even occurr to me that you could hit a bird in flight until then

I had a vulture fly across my windshield when I was doing about 45.
It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
I hit it so hard that it tilted my rearview mirror down and made an insanely loud THUMP that I could feel.
However when I looked in my driver side mirror, all I could see was black feathers and a half retarded bird trying to fly damn near upside down.

I laughed so hard I actually started crying.
