well, the abandoned missle silo thread got me thinking... also with the silohome.com link... what would be some cool ideas for buildings that you could turn into homes? When I was growing up, i went to school with a girl that lived in a caboose... definitely bad ass. A gas station house would be pretty cool... There was also an abandoned fire station that was sold here in Alabama for $40k... lots of garage room, a few bedrooms, and the best part, THE pole!... Just got me thinking. I'm in the market for a new place to live, so i need ideas and some pictures!!! Hook me up! Thanks!

Warehouse space is always cool. Extremely high ceilings, so you can have a "multicourt" inside. Plus you can put walls anywhere you want them and have as much open space as you want.

Too bad you'd have to heat that huge area :(

There used to be a TV show called extreme homes, and they would always have places like missile silos, warehouses, and other things that were converted to a residential home.

I always thought my old elementary school would be cool to have as a home.

Amen to that! There was an entire Iowa grade school for sale a few years ago for like $200,000. The district consolidated, and no longer needed the school. It was built in the 20's, a small 2 story building with 20 rooms and a GYMNASIUM! I wanted it sooo bad.

How cool would it be to shoot hoops inside your 'house' after dinner? :coolman:

Lots of loft homes in Vancouver. When I was a service tech I went to a call in a light industrial area. Had to ring in to go upstairs and found the hugest freakin loft I had ever seen in my life. The people owned a trendy furniture store in town. They had room upon room of tables, sofas, lamps, a couple grand pianos, etc. Like pack rats with $$$$$ furnishings. Their kid has his own big flat screen TV and sega setup (This was 6 or 7 years ago so plasmas we still big bucks) pretty wild house.

saw a show, a family took a shut down dam that was no longer needed and turned it into a home. used one of the partial inlets as a hot tub in the summer. pretty sweet place to retire.
