Should the red wire be always on or switched on? Right now I have it wired on the same wire as my amp which is always hot. Thanks

Mine was on my car when I bought it and all the wires were either at the FPDM or the large power cable from the batt.

Well through the aftermarket power cable to feed the pumps, yes.

couple wires went to the FPDM.

So just to answer this for others you cut the green/yellow wire from the fpdm and in to the red wire and back out of the orange wire.
