I need a decent video card to replace my old Radeon X300, any suggestions?

I would like at least 256mb, I don't need a killer card, I use it to play games (I just bought Supreme Commander and the X300 isn't enought to run it).

Thanks!

if you pan on getting a bluray / hdvd drive, HD movies will require an HDCP-compliant video card to play at full resolution.

Is your system AGP, then I'd say get an ATI X800XT or X850XT or a 7800gs. You can also consider the 6800GT or 6800Ultra. You probably wont find any of these new anymore except for the 7800gs but they are all great cards. The 7800gs would be the fastest of teh bunch followed by the X850XT.

If your system is PCI-E, then I'd probably consider a 7600GT or maybe a 7900gs for the $$. You can spend more and get a faster card but depends on how high you can go.

Any card listed here will obliterate the X300. Even an ancient Radeon 9500pro would probably kill the X300. If you find an ATI 9800pro for dirt cheap (if the system is AGP), then you could go for that as well because its still a very good card, just not as fast as the others listed above.

I have a PCI-E , I picked up a Radeon X1600 Pro today, but it is AGP so I am taking it back tomorrow.

I rather not spend a ton of cash, I'd like to keep it under $200.

SLI FTW!

Seriously, a single 7900GS should work out fine for you. I've run one of my cards on it's own and it handled most games on high settings.

I'd recommend staying away from the ATI X800 or X850 cards since they do not support Shader Model 3.0. A lot of games require SM 3.0 these days and won't run without it.

If you want an ATI card, stick with the X1000 series cards since they support SM 3.0. All late model Nvidia cards also support SM 3.0.

If you need an AGP video card and want to keep it under $200, then I'd recommend something like the ATI X1650, Nvidia 7800 GS, or Nvidia 7600 GT.

+1 to what he said, I have an X800 and it wont play RB6 Vegas and a few others. Go with a 7950 imho.
