My uncle just gave me a Vortech V1, not sure what trim. I've cleaned it up a little as its dusty, and I'll probably open it up to check the condition of the internals, but it sounds fine. I'm planning on putting it on my 03 Mustang GT, and was curious if y'all had any advice or extra parts advised. As of right now, I'm trying to find what I need for the oil feed and return lines. I know I need a mounting bracket, piping, aftercooler, oil feed and dump, and fuel pump and injectors but don't know beyond that. Thanks.

So he just gave you the head unit? Is it the right head unit for your car? What was it on before?

There should be a plate on it that will have the blower info on it.

Yes just the head unit. It had a plate to mount to a 4V, but I have a 2V. I don’t think he knew what it was on, besides a Mod Motor. I believe it is the correct direction for my car, I checked photos and the rotation is the same. The blower info says V1 09799.

You can still find the vortech install manual on their site. The parts list will tell you everything you need.

My recommendation is that you swap your oil pan out for one setup for the return oil line or pull yours and mod it.

2 reasons for this.

1. I've never seen one actually seal up well, they all leak a little no matter how much black RTV you use.

2. You'll never get all the chips out from tapping the pan. I even flushed mine with a few quarts of oil and still found a large chip hung up on my oil pickup screen. I also had one cut a groove in my crank.

Found all this years later. Yes I followed the directions.

Also don't over tighten the supply fitting at the oil filter adapter when you install it. It's soft aluminum and will crack easily. Been there done that.

Hope this helps.

Interesting, I was worried about the shavings. Don’t I have to pull the K-Member to get to the pan though? By mod it do you mean drill a hole or weld in a bung?

Something like this might be a good start. I would definitely pick up an intercooler set up. MAF, injectors, and pump will depend on power goals and the fuel you plan on using.

I was thinking about getting that kit. I think I’m going to custom do air to water kit because everything else is viciously expensive. What kind of MAF would I want for ~500 wheel? I was gonna get a 365lph pump and I think 50lb injectors because they were easy and cheap.

Okay. Does it just plug right in? What’s the difference between blow through and draw through?
Draw through puts the MAF before the blower. Blow through puts it's after the blower. After running both I strongly suggest going blow through as well. Go with the BA5000. Good resolution and you'll never run out of range.

Unless you're going to run at the drag strip all the time go with air to air. Less moving parts and less chance of heat soak. If you think air to air is expensive you haven't priced out a good pump and parts for air to water.

Gotcha. I’ll pick up a BA5000. Should I pickup a WBO2 for tuning? I was planning on air to water because it seemed easier, does anyone have a guide on where to mount air to air? It seemed like a lot of work.

pretty much the only place to put an A2A is behind the front bumper, they go between ac condenser and crash bar

You should definitely get a wideband.

This. Look up any installs for the 96-04 Mustangs and you'll see how they install. Even a CX Racing intercooler would be better than no intercooler IMO.

Couldn't he jack the engine and trans, drop the oil pan, unbolt the pick up tube, and slide the pan and tube out together? Then install in reverse..... Or does he have a windage tray bolted to his mains?

Like jack the engine from the K? If I’m gonna pull the K, I’ll probably do LTHs because I think I have a leak on my headers anyways. Just need to find a pair that fit.
