Does anyone have a weird noise when you first start off in first gear and then it goes away after you get the rpm's up. It kind of sounds like when your going slow in a in 3rd or 4th and the tranny makes a little noise???

Actually it will be allot louder with an aftermarket shifter then a stock shifter, because aftermarket does not use isolators.

All '03s will hear that noise if they start out below a certain RPM in 1st gear. Keep increasing your RPMs until you don't hear that sound.

I don't know why Ford/SVT chose a 2.66 first gear, maybe they know something we don't. I don't know how our cars would perform in the 1/4 mi if we had the 2000 Cobra-R gearing. One thing is for sure though, we could pull off in first at a lower rpm for normal driving.

For comparison (rear axle gearing aside):
2003 Cobra.....(1)2.66 (2)1.78 (3)1.30 (4)1.00 (5)0.80 (6)0.63
2002 Vette......(1)2.66 (2)1.78 (3)1.30 (4)1.00 (5)0.74 (6)0.50
2002 Viper......(1)2.66 (2)1.78 (3)1.30 (4)1.00 (5)0.74 (6)0.50
2002 Z06........(1)2.97 (2)2.07 (3)1.43 (4)1.00 (5)0.84 (6)0.56
2000 Cobra R.(1)2.97 (2)2.07 (3)1.43 (4)1.00 (5)0.80 (6)0.62

yea mine does too! but i guess it's nothing. i think they choose the gears they did purely for durability! less torque multiplication makes it harder to break things! jmho.
