Apparently there was a reason for the door design but I forget why. There is a thread on it somewhere in here.

cool but a waste. what would happen if you get punted from the side, and the door doesn't open? lol, it'd be funny if they're was a malfunction of some kind and the poor bastard would be stuck in the car til someone came....

i think someone made that so if you were to park on a city street you wouldnt have to worry about your car hitting the sidewalk or whatever else is next to the car.

Yep, car was a concept car from 1993 that just sold on eBay. Inside door panel looked like dookie, so I guess it was a 'work in progress' that looked good on the outside but wasn't 100%.
