Trans fluid change

04 cobra...swapped out for a short throw shifter..in doing so I drained the trans fluid and filled from the top while I had the shifter off..I took the fill plug out and filled til it starting coming out the plug on the trans. Question is, is their supposed to be fluid in top part of the tranny where the shifter bolts to. Is it supposed to be filled to the top or empty ?

No fluid up top afaik. Just till it starts running out the fill hole.
