Question...
I have a 2008 GT500.

The stock tires aren't getting me traction
as I am now at 535RWHP.

I was thinking about Nitto 555r or NT05R for
the back of course.
Then I read how bad they were in rain.

I use this as my DD and have been reading
about the 888's.
From what I gather they grip better than the
555 DR and are safer in rain.
Is this correct?

How do they fair in rain compared to the stock
08 GT500 tires?

Also...what size would be best for a 08 GT500
with stock wheels?
I like a wide tire and would like them to stick out
a bit but not a sick amount.

I see they are available in 285 or 295 30, or
305/35.
I read the tires are a lot wider than advertised here:
http://www.svtperformance.com/forum...88-best-rear-tire-ive-ever-used-stuck-15.html

So I'm worried about 305 being too wide.
Read just how much wider they are in that thread.
That page and 3 others after it.

What would a 30 or 35 do with my gear ratio being
the stock back tires are 40s I believe?
(Make a 3.55 like 3.31 or reverse?)

Thanks!

305/35 will work perfect, thats the same size I run, it looks better also having a bigger tire out back.

Are you running these tires though?
Reason I ask is like I said in the first post
they are said to be quite wider than other 305's
people even warn about it in the thread I linked.

Are you familiar with this tire?

The Nitto tires are always more narrow, so the 555R in 305 fits pretty good (some bulge). The 888 will not run narrow, so it will bulge more, but it WILL FIT. My issue with the 305/35 is that it may look funky since it will be shorter than the front.

I think it may look funky too.
And I have heard from many it WON'T fit because the 305 in the 888 is much wider than a usual 305.

I really don't know what the heck to do here people....

How would the 295/30/18 fit and look on stock 18x9.5 wheels and the
stock 255/45/18 front tires?

Or a 275/35/18 or 275/40/18?

Stock size is 27inches. Stay close to that (within 1.5 Inches), and do not put much taller tires on the front than the back... 295/30 seems very small per below.

245/30/18 = 23.787
245/35/18 = 24.752
245/40/18 = 25.717
245/45/18 = 26.681
245/50/18 = 27.646
245/55/18 = 28.610

255/30/18 = 24.024
255/35/18 = 25.028
255/40/18 = 26.031
255/45/18 = 27.035
255/50/18 = 28.039
255/55/18 = 29.043

265/30/18 = 24.260
265/35/18 = 25.303
265/40/18 = 26.346
265/45/18 = 27.390
265/50/18 = 28.433
265/55/18 = 29.476

275/30/18 = 24.496
275/35/18 = 25.579
275/40/18 = 26.661
275/45/18 = 27.744
275/50/18 = 28.827
275/55/18 = 29.909

285/30/18 = 24.732
285/35/18 = 25.854
285/40/18 = 26.976
285/45/18 = 28.098
285/50/18 = 29.220
285/55/18 = 30.343

295/30/18 = 24.969
295/35/18 = 26.130
295/40/18 = 27.291
295/45/18 = 28.453
295/50/18 = 29.614
295/55/18 = 30.776

So the 275/40/18 would be ok height wise
with the stock front 255/45/18 right?

What would they look like width wise since the
stock backs are 285?

Why don't you sear the tire makers site for tire widths? That will cover your width answer

275/40 would look OK, but would not give you the width you want. Based on your criteria of "wide", "not a drag radial", "sticky"...... I think your choice is between the Toyo 888 305/35/18, and NT05 Max Perf Tire 295/45/18. You should be fine with either. If you want a taller tire in the rear for a raked look, get the NT05. If you want a wide tucked look, get the 888.

I haven't heard anyone say the regular NT05 grips anything
near the R888 or Nitto DR's.
Also I never said I didn't want a DR, I just want one that's
Ok to drive in rain if you absolutely had to.

I'd rather have the 888's, but it seems fitment is in
question, I really need to hear from more ppl running
the 305's on stock wheels given how many have said the 888 305
is so much wider than others and won't work
in the stock wheel

I doubt the nt05 non DR provides much more
than the Nitto 555 non DR...and those gave
me no more traction than the stock tires.

The 555R's are not bad in the rain. I drive to/from work all the time in the rain. Like every other tire on the planet, when they go bald they are not safe in the rain.

R888's suck in the rain but work great as an all around street tire.

I don't like them on a road course but not bad as a street tire. If you're looking for a drag style compound then Nitto NT05R. The R888 is more of an open track road race style tire or dry street tire.

I have a 2012 GT500 with 577rwhp and was between nitto INVO and R888. Because of the price and the lack of wet grip, I decided not to go with the R888 yet. I am happy with the INVO tires (295) and can hook fine in 2nd gear. I think any tire that you want to safely DD in rain is going to break loose in 1st, but the INVO's hang on pretty good in 1st unless going all out on the throttle.

A REALLY good grip for the street is what I need.
Even the top of the line KDW or 555 is not
doing it for me.

So I decided 888 or DR's.
The 888 caught my eye because I have heard so many good things such as
it gripping better than the 555R, and being better
In turns and if you happen to get in some rain.

Van,
Have you heard anything about the R888 305 being much
wider than other 305's, thus making fitment on a
stock 18x9.5 really bad?

I've heard this a good bit, but a few with this setup say
its fine.

For the 305 R888, minimum suggested rim width is 10" for proper fitment....it's an 11.7" wide tire which is wide for a 305. I run the 20" 315 on a rear rim that is 11.75". You can see all the widths and suggested rim sizes on tirerack as well as the Nitto and Toyo websites - pretty straight forward. You don't want too wide a tire on a rim as it won't get good traction, handle well, or wear properly. While you may get it on a narrow rim, that doesn't mean it fits as designed IMHO.
