For those of you living in a cave, Tool released their 5th record last Friday. Titled "Fear Inoculum", its the first release from the band since 2006.

All I can say is GODDAMN, its a great ****ing album! Solid record, from first track to last. Fav tracks so far are Pneuma, Descending and Culling Voices. But really its all gravy.

Those of you that are fans or have heard the album, how do you like it? Worth the wait?

I'm going to listen to it in full tomorrow. So far it sounds like they picked up right after 10,000 Days, and while it's good, it's somewhat predictable. Not saying that's a bad thing. If they departed from the "Tool sound," fans would hate it.

Interesting that the Diezel guitar tone effects are a little cleaner than previous albums... I hear a lot more dry sound in there than usual. I don't detect a lot of post-processing.

The last time a Tool album came out, I was still driving a Fox body Mustang... haha

Fun Fact: Pneuma sounds striking similar to Raptor: Call of the Shadows E1L4 (DOS game from 1994).

Been blowing it up since Friday.
Has a Anema and Lateralus vibe.

Love invincible, and of course Killswitch Engaged dropped their new album. Lots of good shit!

I find it stormy and rhetorical. Redolent of there early works, with a whole new edge. A welcome addition to a world where anthropocentric global warming let us all down, but, yet, still a world in which linear algebra shines the light on a path forward, in spite of living eight and a half minutes away from a variable star twice as large as the average star.

They're way, WAY too predictable with their sound. I get that every band has their own style, and sound. But, if you deviate so little between albums, why bother releasing a new album at all?

This album made me feel really old. I wanted to do the right thing and pick up a physical copy of the album; no one sells cds anymore.

Amazon prime has the album streaming for free.

If I download the album through amazon do I HAVE to listen to it through amazon music or can I move the files to whatever device and program I want?

Kept getting interrupted when trying to listen to it in full. Hopefully I can make it through the whole thing tomorrow

Have not heard it yet, to tell you the truth I wasn’t a big fan of 10,000 was pretty disappointed in it. If the new one is indeed a throw back to Lat and Anema I’ll be a happy camper and buy it.

My only complaint...the songs are too long. I have to take a road trip to listen to 1 song. Other than that, love it.

That was me, and this new album is a mix of new and old. I want to love it but it’s just meh, has some great stuff but all in all they’ve become stale now to me. I love APC too, but it’s almost too much of a crossover between them. I want the raw feeling I got from 90’s.

Well, I'm not a real Tool fan. Being class of 2002 though, I was into "that" music, just not Tool. Any Tool fan at school, I was friends with them though. I like their radio hits, but they are overplayed. I have not listened to any of their albums completely. That being said, when this came out, and it was streaming for free on Spotify....why not? I've heard DJs joke about this day never cominging, and here it is.

It's enjoyable. I like the instrumental aspects of the songs. It reminds me of NIN. Same with some of the openings, and unique sounds and instruments you hear. They still perfectly have that "Tool" sound.

You're not joking. At least two i listened to went on for longer than 10 minutes? And they love the instrumentals on this one for sure.

Its an ok album. Im still partial to songs like Prison Sex, Bottom, The Pot and Hooker with a Penis. Most of the new stuff doesnt hold a candle to the older stuff. Good but not mind blowing.

It’s ok but not great. They had set the bar for themselves impossibly high.

I feel the same way about slipknot’s new album. At this point there is nothing they can do that will ever be what there older stuff was to an 18 year old me. Too many feels lol

As mentioned the new killswitch engage is really good and the upcoming new As I lay dying is going to blow away everyone’s new shit

It's the age old dilemma in music. Stay true to your sound, people find it stale. Change your sound, people call you a sellout and reminisce of older works.

Metallica is the epitome of this. Load/Reload pissed off a lot of hardcore thrash fans. Personally, I liked those albums, and that's some sort of metal sin.

Use effects, people say you are masking a lack of talent/skill. Don't use effects, people say the tone is boring. Quad-track, people say it's too loud. Mono-track, people say it sounds too much like a demo and is too quiet. There's no winning.

Yes I'm using Reddit spacing even though I've never posted on Reddit in my life...

Beautifully wordsmith'd. Adam Jones would be proud.

You can move the files to whatever device or software you want to. I bought a bunch of stuff on amazon and downloaded it then dropped it into iTunes. The only issue I'm having is once a started paying for Apple music it's seeing all the CDs I ripped or music I brought in I bought on Amazon and saying it's not available...so thats cool. If you're not using Apple Music it should work fine.

Thanks DSG. Recently moved my 100+gb of music from itunes/ipod to my phone and use a third party, non-apple/google/amazon music app.
