Hey guys,

After 10 years I finally decided to pick up some 18 inch chrome replica wheels for my Cobra since I am converting to mm coilovers. My goal is to have the classic, but sinister look. Any rate, I know this has been beat to death, but I am thinking of going 275 35 18 and 305 35 18 R888s. What is everyone's thoughts? Any reason to go 315 30 18? I am thinking the 30 series wouldn't look right. Any other recommendations or other tire set ups? This is just a upper pulley street cruiser. Currently I have stock 17 inch wheels with 315 Nitto 555Rs.

Thanks,

Tom

I have 275-35-18 front in a Toyo T1 Sport and the 305-35-18 Toyo R888 in the rear mounted to my 18" Cobra wheels.

This is exactly the setup I'm thinking about as well so I can't wait to see it. Where did you purchase your reps from svtrookie?

Fast Willy, I ordered them from AFS. They are usually hard to come by, but they have a few sets in right now. Just an FYI, prices are a little higher now because AFS is no longer chroming them in China. They chrome plating is being done in California. They claim the chrome is higher quality, but who knows. Hopefully they turn out looking good. I am still on the fence about switching out my 18s, but hopefully they will look good with the right drop.

Thanks Joe! I appreciate the pictures. Both look good, but I think I am still leaning towards the taller sidewall. The only other option is running the Toyo Torque 315 35 18, but they look massive!

Thanks Ryan! Your car looks awesome! What is your experience so far with the R888s? I like the look of the 35 sidewall. Does the car stick with them? Right now I am running the 555r...they do okay on the street, but I am hoping the R888s keep traction just as well if not better. Thoughts?

I am in the market for new sets of tires and I thought I was going to go with 315/30/18 until I saw the comparison pictures. I like the tallerside wall as well and I would definetely go 305/35/38. Thanks Ryan! Which tire did you actually prefer?

I never tried the R888's an think I will try them on next set of tires.....but anyone ever tried the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the R888's?......I love the super sports but really want to hear a comparison from someone who's tried both.

I love the R888 tires. I previously ran them on my 2002 Red Saleen twin turbo car. It made 700rwhp on pump gas and the R888 hooked very well.
On my current 03 Cobra, the tires also do very well. They have a little more noise than a standard street tire and to me is kind of sounds like a basketball noise....if that makes sense. I run the pressure between 28 pounds and 30 pounds cold and traction is pretty good.
These are the only "drag" tires I will ever run on the street if any chance of rain is expected.
My old Black 98 Saleen had the M/T radials and it would hydroplane like crazy if the road was wet.

I love the 305-35 sidewalls!

Thanks svtrookie, I've been in touch with AFS in regards to purchasing some new ones just trying to see if I can track down a used set first if possible. Let me know how yours look when you get them please.

315/35/18 toyo tq drag radials here. Best size for the rears IMO. I believe a 30 sidewall is too short unless it's a 335/30/18

The link above is a really nice tire dimensions comparing tool. Offers Gear ratio, speed calibration and etc on the tires you choose. Of course dimensions are going to differ by manufacturer measurements, but at least you get a ball park number.

I like the 35 sidewall, have had the toyo TQ 315 35 18 and they looked perfect, went through 3 sets of those. Just got a pair of MT et street ss 305 35 18 and they look the same as the TQ's in width and height just a little bit stickier. Have had good luck with my AFS chrome 18's so far, two years old.
