i am currently running 315/35 on 9 inch rears... there is bulge, but not enough that i am concerned... i even had it on the quarter mile today with air pressure dropped to 22 psi and had NO issues what so ever... i would assume that a 275 would be no problem at all. granted i plan to upgrade to 10.5 inch rims soon because i hear so many people talk about the bulge.

The tire manufacturers state that minimum approved rim size for a 275/40/17 tire is 17X9. The stock 17X8 is too narrow for a 275 wide tire and will cause the sidewall to bulge out too much, reducing the contact patch. The largest approved tire for a 17X8 wheel is a 255/40/17.
