So I am sure it is different from 2 years ago when I signed up. </strong> </p><p></p><p><em>4. since i am a student i like for my schedule to be semi-flexible. do i decide what weekend to work? also can i decide when to do basic/training?</em></p><p></p><p><strong>A: No you don't get to pick what weekend to work. Do not plan on it. My squadron has drill the 1st weekend of every month. We got lucky this year and have a alternate drill weekend every month too, but it makes your supervisor have to ask a higher rank and they usually don't like doing that very often. </strong></p><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>But yes, you get to pick when you want to go to basic...well not the exact day because they don't start a class every day</strong> </p><p></p><p><em>5. how long does basic/training take since i will have to do this probably over summer break?</em></p><p></p><p><strong>A: It all depends on your job. I went into basic Dec. 13th...graduated in January and got out at the end of March. I am sure the nursing or whatever you want to get in will be longer. </strong></p><p></p><p><em>6. do i decide where my home base is?</em></p><p></p><p><strong>A: Yes you do. And different bases have different job openings...so you might have to travel if you get a certain job set in stone.</strong></p><p></p><p><em>7. what are my chances of being deployed?</em></p><p></p><p><strong>A: Again, depends on the job...I know I will never get deployed with my job unless I want to. </strong></p><p></p><p><em>8. i am currently a pharmacy tech and in nursing school. could i get a job in either of these fields? or what other jobs would you recommend?</em></p><p></p><p><strong>A: I would recommend my job if you are good at electronics and just a little mechanical. 2A0_1D if you can get it. The D is for F-16's though since that is the planes that are on my base. I was the last class to be in the 6 week program, now it has changed to 8 weeks. But, you have to go into this with an open mind. I have played football my whole life. My dad is a football coach etc...So I just looked at the drill instructors as football coaches and I had a great time. :banana:</p><p></p><p>Some people it hits them hard though...They call home crying etc...Just go in knowing its going to suck for the first few weeks, and then the drill instructors start going a little easier and everything will be fine. </p><p></p><p></p><p><strong>Tech School: </strong> At first, you will be in "Phase I" which freaking sucks. You can't do anything...but slowly after a couple weeks/a month you will start moving up in "phases" and you will be able to do alot more. Go off base...Go to the local mall's etc. (Also depends on where your Tech School is.) I went to Biloxi, MS and Wichita Falls, Tx...They are both fine.
