As far as being an offier I wouldnt know because I was enlisted. but I was Navy from 01-05. Joined when I was 18 right out of high school. I was never more then 6 hours away from my family. I chose the closest orders i could. In the 4 years I was in I was only out to sea for 1 6 month deployment and I didnt even make that full on. Ive been to Spain, italy, Dubai, the U.A.E made some great friends and actully missed it. i was lucky enough to be an Avionics Tech on the now retired F-14 Tomcat. From my personal experience, Its not for everyone and some people may not like it. I had a great time and I consider it the best time of my life thus far. if it wasnt for my current job and g/f Id go back. Like someone mentioned before if you can wait try to get a BA and see if you can go officer. it is harder to get in but the benefits will come out better. Either way good luck.
