If I were in the market for a car in that price range it would be the R8. Amazing machine.
Jesus Christ you guys say some stupid shit sometimes. Is the performance even relevant anymore?
I think you go through cars like I used to go through women. Go for it.Ok gang...I have an opportunity to trade both my benzes in and get a super mint, low mileage 2013 Mclaren Mp412c. Only 5k on it. Car would come with a warranty. The sticker on the Mclaren was over 300K and the dealer is selling it for 114k. Crazy...haha. Link...
2013 McLaren MP4-12C Base
This will be my last opportunity to get an exotic before the new tax law our great governor put into effect begins Jan 1 (after that there will be a cap on trade in tax allowance)
Also, I wont be spending my winters here much longer and will not need a daily driver. So my plan is to have an exotic that I will only drive on perfect days and have a beater for me otherwise...
Does anyone know the reliability on the older Mclaren? I was on the forum and it seems dam good but if something does go wrong there is a long wait on parts.
Please don't hate...I love both my benzes, but to me the mclaren in on another level and for the price I feel like I am getting a very special car at a fraction of the cost.
Thoughts!???
At the end of the day it’s still a corvette. Not an exotic. And IMO really ugly lol.why would you do that over the c8 ??? C8 is a no brainer ....or the Z twin turbo once released ....
5k on a McLaren is like 300k on a normal car. My father bought one with 2k on it. It has 3 or 4k on it now (it's in the shop right now so I cant go into the garage and look) but there have been a bevy of problems:
- Both AC control LCD screens went out.....$2,500 each (we're going to fix them ourselves)
- oil pan leak.....some ungodly amount of money to fix
- tire faults left and right
- the air brake threw a fault and quit working
- it can't handle the AZ heat and pulls timing or something and falls flat on its iace when it's heat soaked
- there is some weird intermittent power loss in the high rpm band. I'm the only one that's feel it and I'm scared I'm going to pop the engine every time.
- the DCT acts up intermittently when you shift manually.
- the lower ducts keep falling off. They're really expensive and we're leaving them off
- airbag recall
Aside from the LCD screens I don't know what everything will cost but I'll find out tomorrow when we pick it up.
It's not my car but it's in my garage and I put half of the miles on it so here's my take: it's a bitchin car that's fun to drive. It's really raw and visceral and everything you've read about it being bland and boring is wrong. Also, get the spider, don't ask questions, just do it. The cost of any scratch, scrape, ding, or engine light is stupid expensive A local guy got a low mph fender scrape in the parking lot and it cost him $30k to fix. Basically every time you start the thing you hemorhage money and it's not like you can go to Auto Zone and repair it yourself. Its something you have to prepare for.
If you're ok with the cost of ownership, go for it. Honestly, a shifter kart is way more fun to drive and has a similar powerband feel. I tell people who drive it that they now have an idea of what my karts feel like just without the mind bending brakes and half the lateral G's. Keep in mind we were VERY close to a 12c's times at Leguna Seca and it was the worst possible weather to race in (freezing cold, high winds, and rain). Something to think about if you get cold feet....or get both. Shifter karts aren't expensive.

I bet Illinois is like California and they check for people who Montana it.OP should Montana it.
My dad has a 650S. There's a reason an extended service contract is $5k a year.

I've been looking at 12C's as well and just started considering the 650's but spending 10K a year on Maintenance, warranty, and increased insurance really has me thinking twice. Audi R8's looking real good right about now.
