The truck was broken in to some time this morning. They shattered the drivers side glass, pulled it out as one piece, and slid it under the truck. They only took the stereo, some cd's, and my V1. They left the gps, siruis, ipod interface, subs, etc which I was surprised to see.

I was extremely lucky as I forgot to take the Glock out when I got home last nite. It's good to know my "secret" storage area stayed hidden. The police officer who took the report couldn't find it when I was telling him where the gun was stored.

For anyone who's gone through this process with their insurance company, did they give you replacement value on your items or a depreciated replacement value? I should come out ahead if it's replacement value since my V1 was over 7 years old and the LCD was 4-5. I have to wait until Monday to get a new window and talk to the adjuster.

I'm tempted to sit at my front fence tonite and see if they come back for the rest.

Thieves should be hanged from a tall tree... by their sack.

A friend of mine had his house broke into recently (his wife was eight months pregnant at the time). He re-keyed the locks which was fortunate... he returned home early from work a week after the initial break-in so he could let some repair guys in. As he approached his house he saw the guys once again trying to get in, this time using a set of keys they took the first time they broke in.

He gave chase catching one of the low-lifes... he beat him badly enough to break the guys jaw, cheek bone and to cause him blindness in one eye. When the police arrived they were concerned he had used excessive force and to top it off the thief tried to make a case for lawsuit against him :fm:.

I would buy one of those motion camera's that hunters use. Once I couldnt do any more survallance I wouldn set it to take pictures of anything that moves larger than 100#'s.

Or just sleep in the truck for the next few nights...I bet they come back. Have yo ever seen the look on someones face when they are surprised to see you....and a pistol in their face?

Sorry to hear this.
I would keep an eye out for the next while. If they left stuff behind they might deside to come back for the rest.
I know from the time I've had brake-ins the insurance would not cover anything that could be easily removed (CD's, GPS etc.) that goes under the house insurance, and as the house wasn't broke into they would not cover it.

I live north east of Austin off the toll road. I'd rather not say exactly where. The officer said a car two streets away was hit night before last. They stole his stereo, amps, subs, and rear lcd. Apparently, they are looking targeting cars with dark tint. They got 10 good prints, but I doubt anything will come of it.

I was actually looking at motion detecting cameras Tuesday. Always a day late and a dollar short when it comes to that kind of stuff. If I caught them, it wouldn't be a pistol in their face. It'd be this -

I told the officer whoever did this was damn lucky I didn't wake up because they would have been dead in my driveway.

Here's some of the aftermath:

They got my carpet filthy too, but I can't see my insurance company paying to get that cleaned.

I'm not too concerned about the CD's. 98% of them were burned, and I have copies of the originals. There were one or two I actually care about. If they don't cover the V1, I'll be extremely pissed. It was hard wired into the overhead console which I hope they'll consider.

I know how you feel buddy!

I thought this was my original post coming back up (same title)

Happened to me 2 months ago, i am finally as of today ahead of where i started. Damages fixed and my new deck is even better.

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518266

Check out the pics in the first link, thats what they did to mine :fm:

Looks good man . I think I may stay with Kenwood because my all of my other accessories are Kenwood. We'll see. Before I do anything, I need to get the truck in the garage. I had a top of the line paging remote on my Mustang. I guess it's time to invest in one for the Lightning.

I just looked at your damage pics. Wow, they did quite a bit more damage to your truck than mine. Thankfully the tint kept most of the glass out of the truck. They took the whole window as one piece and slid it under the truck. I hope my insurance company will cover the cost of retinting the new window.

As for your question,

My old deck was valued at $999 new (3 - 4 years ago)

They gave me $870 total to go towards a new one, so i paid the rest. I didn't pay $999 for my old one so i am actually ahead even though i dumped $ into the new one.

If I end up with $1000 for the deck and $400 for the V1, I'll be happy. I should be able to buy a good replacement deck for that price. If I get the full $1,400 purchase price, then I'll apply the $400 to a new alarm.

Same thing happened to me last November. They pried the drivers window out at the 12'o clock position in the door frame and scratched the drivers side view mirror when they removed it, the broken glass was mostly held in place with the window tint. Check your window seal, it might need to be replaced from them prying on the glass. Check your horn wires, they cut mine.
All I had to pay was my $100 deductible. My insurance company(USAA) like most is paired up with a company and they shipped me all my replacement stereo components and paid me the labor to reinstall it all. I would not mention how old everything was, just search for several suitable replacement head units.

As far as the V1, go back with K40 radar detector F&R and front laser diffuser and, not the blue tooth version. They are so easy to install and hard wired so, you don't have any worry of it being stolen or seen by a cop if you get pulled over.

They told me if it isn't part of the vehicle (bolted in) it isn't covered. So my coverage probably wouldn't cover a Detector. Hope yours does !

I lost a bunch of cd's and random crap that was in my center console. They told me they would cover 1 !!!!! cd if i had proof of purchase etc..... I didn't even bother looking for a receipt for $10 bucks.

I'll have to check the horn in the morning, but I think it's ok. I have USAA also. How did the replacement work with yours? They actually shipped a replacement, not cut a check? Interesting...

The K40 is quite a bit more expensive than the V1 IIRC. I was happy with my V1, except due to its age, the K/KA detection was somewhat lacking.

USAA used First choice solutions with my claim. They sent me comparable equipment to what was stolen. Be sure to get a new wiring harness. USAA cut me a check back for my labor, window re tint and my ipod. They did not cover my Beretta(home owners claim) so, I never replaced it. They should cover your radar, anything hardwired.
I have used and installed K40s since 1991. They are mo-better than anything else out there. Even the new Escort 9500ci. Try and find someone who will sell one cheap on line.

PM me if you need anything else.

Thanks for the offer Mike! Thankfully, I still have my stock 6-disc. The truck is grounded right now anyway until I pick up some new front tires. Hopefully I can get everything fixed up ASAP, and I won't need to install the stock deck.

Good info Andrew! Did they require receipts for anything, and did they let you pick the comparable equipment?
