testing coil on plug

Can you test the coil on plug with a multimeter like an old coil pack, looking on line looks like you cant use a resistance test on these, I have a circuit failure on prime A, hoping to be a bad coil.

Found the problem, passenger side 1st coil boot is melted, apparantly when these things go bad they can close the circuit and stay energized and get hot as a firecracker, doesn't look like it melted the wiring but will have to replace coil and take a closer look at it, wouldn't have expected this with 39xxx on the clock but all mechanical or electrical parts can fail at any time I reckon.
