After a few days of ownership, I have decided to sell my 1999 GT convertible. The swap was completed using a donor 2003 Cobra I bought cheap from a local insurance auction. I saw a kid wreck it about 4 months ago leaving a car show. He nailed the gas, lost control, spun around through a crowd of bystanders, and backed it into a tree. His loss, my gain!
DRIVETRAIN:
The Cobra I bought had just over 18,000 miles on her. I swapped the complete motor and harness. While it was between cars, I added a caged 4lb lower to compliment the 2.9 upper. The upper is still hidden by the original puller cover, and a new Gatorback belt has eliminated any doubt of belt slip. The trans was also upgraded with a 26 spline input shaft and a new RAM twin disc clutch. The rear is the original GT 8.8 that has been rebuilt and upgraded with FRPP 4.30 gears and Moser 31 spline axles get the power out to the crappy Goodyear tires on stock Cobra wheels.
INTERIOR:
The interior is mint, but I liked the look of the Cobra seats better that the GT crap. No bolster wear, although I had to have what I think was a pee stain professionally cleaned from the driver's seat.
EXTERIOR:
A fresh rattle-can Mystichrome paint job is the real catch on this GT! There is a little (okay, a lot) of overspray on the windshield, so you will need to be skilled to remove that (or just tint it). Also a little overspray on the headlights too, and the top of the windshield bar did not get covered in paint (my painter is an oompa-loompa and couldn't reach that high, hence why there isn't any there!).
This is one helluva ride that will display nicely once given a little TLC.
Looking for $60 shipped, OBO of course.
Car is a 1:18th scale Maisto 1999 GT die-cast that has been swapped with parts from a Maisto 2003 Cobra convertible.
