tar or something on paint help w removal

must have ran through some tar or some kind of sticky substance and it is spread out all over the drivers side paint wheel wells running boards. what is the best stuff to use to remove the tar or whatever it is without scratching or damaging the black paint. thanks

im in rhode island and we have a chemical called PLEX.it's a wax and grease remover. you canfind something similiar to it at any automotive paint store

works great, but will remove wax as well so wax after a nice wash and clean up

wd worked perfect and the longer it was left on the better it worked. tried the bug and tar and negative wd did the trick thanks guys and of coarse i put a coat a wax back on her
