Thinking about making a trip to the Tampa area in late May/early June. What are the area "must see" attractions? What are good local restaurants to check out? Any theme restaurants? Any good weekly car cruises?

I was down there for New Year's and we checked out Channel Side and went to the Hyde Park area.
I'm 22 and the Hyde Park Cafe and MacDintons was a younger crowd whereas Channel Side had both but started to become a younger crowd as the night grew longer.
Channel Side has a bunch of things in it though. Restaurants, movie theatre, stores, etc...
We never made it to Ybor City.

big street scene in tampa. ill be in tampa that same time. i enjoy hooters and winghouse. clearwater beach is nice too.
The Aquarium is cool.
Robles Park, Belmont Heights, North Boulevard Homes... Gorgeous areas!

Agreed. Lots of different restaurants all close together. Don't go to Ybor after dark as stated above. You can pretty much just drive anywhere and find something to do.

Man i want to go to tampa, I have a friend who lived in clearwater? had a house on a river and took his boat into the city all the time. sounds like a wonderful place to live.
I took all day boat ride up and down the inner coastal area. Thats alot of fun with places right on the water and alot of eye candy. Bring the camera:rockon:

So only visit Ybor during the day? Probably a week day to be extra sure? lol Guess that is where the loonies hang out at night? What is Ybor?
It's basically a strip of clubs / restaurants along with a Muvico theater, a Gameworks (under new management), etc. Like said, you should go there before night fall to avoid all the drunken idiots and thugs that lurk out at late night.
A few years ago there was a shooting there that left a person or two dead but I don't know all the details. I was living near Miami at the time.
Beaches are nice too, Clearwater for sure. You won't get bored :beer:
Ybor is in the middle of the hood. So a good portion of the people down there are hoodrats. Its not uncommon for somebody to get shot or stabbed on a nightly basis on thursdays, fridays, and saturdays.

i was at ybor a few yrs ago for new yrs. the roads were blocked off so you could walk anywhere you wanted where all the clubs were. there were people all over and cops on every block. very safe.

Ybor and safe should never be used in the same sentence.
Centro Ybor is fine. I would say it is safe. Once you get to the fringes of Ybor late evening you are looking for trouble.

There are a bunch of little hole in the wall places to eat all around Tampa Bay with great food. Of of Rt 41 in Ruskin on Shell Point Road is an amazing roadside seafood shack. You sit outside but the food is fresh caught and awesome.
Keegans in Indian Rocks Beach is awesome too. Best Seafood on the Gulf Beach of Tampa Bay
Two of my favorite beaches are Ana Maria Island Beach in Bradenton and Fort Desoto Beach. In 2008 and 2009 Fort De Soto Park was named America's Top Beach by TripAdvisor.
