Hey everybody!
Has any one swapped out the IRS for a GT live axel?

If so, is it a straight bolt in?
Not to mention cost? Have you guys gotton the parts from
a wrecked GT or go with new parts.

Reason being there's alot more susupension upgrades for the live
axel than the IRS.

H@R makes a Cup kit (springs and shocks) that lowers the front 2.25
and the rear 2 inch, on the GT suspension.

Or Air ride technologies makes a kit for the live axel version too.

Unless you guys know of a set of springs that lower the Cobras 2 inch or
more?

Thanks

If you are just looking for slammed, you don't need to swap out the IRS. I think Intrax makes 2" drop springs and the H&R SuperSports are going to get real damn close to 2". Also, there are a lot of upgrades available for the IRS. What are you goals with the car/suspension? Street, drag, open track?

the search function is your friend...LOL

For shame, LOL :nono: Yeah, a bunch of us have swapped to solid axle. If you do a search you will find posts on this with coplete parts lists and such. If you don't take it to the 1/4 track and you're not sick of wheelhop, then get yourself some H&R supersports and Bilstein shocks/struts. If you do want to swap, then yes, it is just a straight bolt on swap. You will need:
solid axle
upper and lower control arms
GT springs and rear shocks
ABS wires
Pinion snubber
GT exhaust system
And a conversion bracket to keep your cobra brakes (most just keep the GT's brakes and hook em' up so you can clear 15" drag rims)
Did I forget anything?

Im actually just looking for street performance. Ill "probably" never track the car. If I do it will be just once a year.
Im more into the overall aspect of the car. Show and GO.

Every spring set up IVE seen always seems to look like the rear end sags.
I CAN NOT STAND THAT!
It MUST be LOW and LEVEL or even a little raked.

Hence the air ride set up. TOTAL CONTROL.
However Ill be driving the car year round, at least this year.
And nobody has given me the "OK" on the air ride set up for sub zero
temps. Other than the company itself.

If I can find the perfect set up without air ride Ill be happy.
So far I've only seen Sprint springs and Billstein shocks on GTs that looks
good. 2inch drop looked good.

If you're just going for street, there really is no need to swap in a solid. Go with H&R SS springs. If you want more rake, leave the isolators out in the front, but in the rear.
