svtfox-Build Thread. 04 Cobra powered fox

First off the car has been swapped for 2 years had ported eaton and bolt ons made 520/500 and ran best of 11.2 2.2 60. Last summer after mustang week i decided i wanted more and started tearing into it. sold blower and scored a good deal on kennebell 2.6h. It was low mileage but i wanted to clean it up so i smoothed out intake inlet and started polishing it. Heres a before picture under the hood last summer.

Heres some work on blower i did so far.

Also bought fore hat with gt pumps but decided gt pumps will max out so im going to pick up stealth 340 pumps and go return style.

Decided i liked the look of the slicks and sold the fr500s and scored me a good deal on new comp 106360 blower cams springs, retainers.

So then talking to tuning and going back and forth on what i wanted out of the car he disagreed on pushing it past 650 with stock pistons. So i debated on what to do and i wanted to max this blower the f out!.
Started calling around getting prices on shop for machine and assembly. Ive read all kinds of story's on bad shop so i wasn't settling with someone i didn't trust or wasn't comfortable with. decided street lethal performance was the shop i went with. So i went to town pulling motor and getting it ready. Pulled pan and was surprised to find pick up clogged with silicone from previous owner!

Love that color, great choices on the upgrades and nice job on the port matching. Looking forward to see it come together. Keep us up to date.

That 11.2 run... Did I read that right? a 2.2 60' time? What's your suspension setup? Was that on street tires? I'm guessing that was prior to the slicks.

Thanks guys! And yes 2.2 60 with the slicks. I only ran it three times and i was messing with 2 step and suspension trying to dial it in but never got back to track before tearing car apart. Oh well i will make it this year if the car gts done.

I noted the exhaust guides have been pressed out. What are you going to replace them with?

The reason I ask is a friend of mine repairs cast iron cylinder heads for industrial diesel engines. Having experience with both steel (intake) and bronze (exhaust) guides in the same engine I noted how all the bronze guides needed replacement at rebuild time while the steel were fine. I asked him about this and he stated for the same reason he never uses bronze and always ops of steel. The factory mod motor valve guides are powdered metal with is very hard and will resist the heat better than bronze. Ford did not cast a boss around the exhaust valve guides for flow reason but this leaves the valve guide more exposed to the exhaust blast.........bronze has a much lower melting point than steel and will get somewhat softer under the exhaust heat. A valve rocking in the guides will hammer out the valve seats.

Just something to consider

Yes i understand car dont get driven that often. But the powdered guides wear out and gives the smoke at start up and soon the valve tick. Mine were bad so went with bronze

The PM guides are likely to hold-up much better than bronze as stated. Just keep that in mind if you have to replace valve guides in the future. PM is hard as a hell. Just try putting a file to bronze then try PM
