It's there for sound and heat. But it does scratch and remove the paint on the underside of the hood to which it is attached. I've enlarged the blow holes, painted it, and coated it with 3m water proofing........waiting for it to combust on a hot sunny day at a stop light....kinda like this>>>>:burn:
