stock wheels how wide of a tire?

i was wondering how wide i can go on my stock wheels.

i have a 08 mustang gt with the 17's. im not sure if there 17.8 or 17.9

ok my situation. i started to order 2 18.9 bullet replicas from AM and i kinda went over my budget with the cai and tuner mid pipe and headers lol.

so i was going to get the Nitto NT-555R drs 275/40/R17 since there only 144.00 per tire instead.

i just wonder if they would work. crosses fingers.

Your factory wheels are 17x8 with a +45mm offset. With that said, the widest tire that is recommend is a 275/50-17 (keeping OD in mind). The recommended wheel width for the 275/40-17 is 9" to 11" with 9.5" being ideal. Also, the 275/40-17 will be 1.5" smaller in OD from factory. You may want to consider running the Nitto NT555 Extreme Performance in the 255/50-17 size.
