Long story short back in October 2010 I was in an accident went to therapy for several weeks with no relief so yesterday I had an appt with a pain and spine specialist and he suggested the Steroid Neck Injections. Just wondering if anybody has had them or knows anybody that did and would you reccommend them? Seems like alot of pain to go through for a short term solution?

My parents both had spinal injections due to bad backs.

It is an EXTREMELY painful process, however, the results last for a couple of months.

I have a bad neck from a car accident last year, however, won't go through the trouble of getting these injections and will stick to aspirin, lol.

My mother gets them every few months. Sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. They also don't know exactly what is wrong, so that may be why it doesn't always help.

See this is what I was expecting, very painful and temporary relief and also several times a year, not something to look forward to.

just got the first round in my lower back. i was at the point where i couldn't walk without a crutch. i have 3 degenerative discs, one of which is pushing into my siatic (sp?) nerve, in my lower back. i go though bouts of serious pain every few months, but every so often i get to the point i can't walk. that's when i go for the shots. i'm actually going for the second set in 2 weeks. and it's not painful at all if you request anesthesia ;) lol i've been knocked out every time i need them. last thing i want is to feel someone putting a needle into my spine. but it does do the job. quite well i must say. you'll be a little sore the day after, but it's well worth it.

Do you go under when you have them done? Or just a mild sedation? I don't think I would want to be awake for that.

Is this what you're looking for? My dad used to get these everyonce in awhile, they helped him and he never complained about the pain. He couldnt operate a vehicle after taking it though, and it made him pretty tired.

They are going to inject me in the neck the C-1 through C-7 section not the back.

I was awake for mine. 6" needle and local anesthesia.

 Oh man I better be really numb and I dont want to see anything, If I even do it now.

results will vary depending on what the problem is. if you have a herniated disc, then the shot might take care of the problem permanently depending on how bad the disc is. have you seen a spine surgeon, or only a pain specialist?? is your pain primarily in the neck, or does it radiate down the arm. you can expect a better outcome with the shot if your pain goes down the arm. if the pain is from arthritis, then your results are not as predictable.

the shots are less painful than surgery, and if you've failed non-operative care so far (anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy), then they are the next logical step in treatment.

man up, and get the shot. i thank god nearly every day, that i didn't choose spine surgery for a career

I have had the surgery and I have had the injections. This man speaks the truth. Get the injections they are not that bad and the discomfort is only a few secs. It is discomfort not pain.

FlahDah man.
I have never found them painful at all. I get them often for upper and lower spinal damage. Some docs will put you out. The last couple I have had no pain meds or anesthesia. A little stick and some pressure but nothing I'd call painful.
