steering shaft

installing mid length headers looking for more room for install.
will the bottom telescoping section of the stock steering shaft disconnect from the top?
in other words, pull all the way out?
On first attempts it does not appear to come out easily if at all, just want to make sure before I "gorilla - it" and break something.

No. It won't come apart. At least not that I've ever seen. When I dropped my engine in with the Bassanis bolted on already I ended up disconnecting the steering shaft from the rack and then from under the dash. There was one or two bolts that hold it at the firewall. Once those are out the whole shaft pulls out.

That's what I discovered last night. The telescoping sections are staked on. Also the shaft cannot be removed from passenger compartment until the bearing on the firewall is removed
