Steering rack tube... Important?

How important is that little metal tube that goes from one tie rod end boot to the other? And what's it's purpose? Mine was hanging off and I wanna know if I should put it back on or just leave it off thanks guys

I believe it's a vent to allow air to pass from the boot that is compressing to the one that is extending while keeping the system water/debris tight.

If you remove it the system will allow dirt/dust in that can get to seals.

Had mine fall off also, put it back on and came right back off....what would I need to do to hold it in place?

Lol mine did the same thing yesterday. I wonder if one of the boots are pushed out too far and when it extends it just pulls the rod out? I'm gunna put mine on and have someone turn the wheel back and fourth to see if I can find what's going on.
