...Had some issues with my stock TOB retainer (quill tube). It sounded HORRIBLE and, come to find out, the stock aluminum piece (which is actually 2 pieces friction-welded together) had completely come apart! I replaced it with a steel one-piece assembly for about $50 from Astro Performance in Florida. Tim, the owner from my understanding, was great to work with, going out of his way several times to track me down a piece, and the piece is MUCH better than the stock assembly (and the $400 price tag for a replacement from Ford because they want you to replace the front adapter plate which is unnecessary).
Cliff notes - If you break a TOB retainer/quill tube, give Tim @ Astro Performance a call and pick up a one-piece steel tube. Great guy, great part.
