Just got word back from John Morton at Steeda

They are willing to do another run of K Members, below are the details.

Steeda Lightweight SN95 (96-04) K-Member.
Minimum of 10 guaranteed orders.

The group price is $1099.00 + freight and any taxes applicable for where it is being shipped. Due to the size, they are shipped by truck freight. Freight is typically $100-$150. Local pickup at our manufacturing facility in Valdosta, GA is also available.

Must be paid for in full. Fully refundable if the minimum number of K-Member pre-orders is not met. Sales become final once manufacturing has started. Target timeframe for completion is 4-6 weeks after manufacturing starts.

Great to hear - the best out there and glad I was able to advertise for them: Chassis & Steering

Just for the grins of it - an overlay image of the Steeda and stock k-members from my site:

wow 1250 delivered isn't doing us any favors, I don't mind blowing money on my car but I think thats a little more than I'd want to spend.

We need to get SVT_Troys opinion on them as I think he couldn't ever get his to fit.

I like mine. I was on the last group order like 2-4 or so years ago. They shipped mine and someone else’s and then the rest of the group had to wait months for theirs. It needed to be cut and re-welded for proper fitment once it arrived. I ended up using the QA1 control arms. Nice piece as it gives you the sturdy feel of the stock k member with some of the benefits of the race k members.

Wow that sucks. I think Troys wasn't even close to clearing his stock pan. For $1250 it needs to fit perfectly and steeda needs to install it for me lol.

I agree the price isn’t too hot especially for a group buy. I did inquire with John about the price hike and got the normal party line that steel and labor have gone up.

Funny Segway, I called Maximum Motorsports about their appetite to produce a K Member that is structurally sound for turning while retaining the stock spring perches. They are adamant in their stance that coil overs are fine and there is no issue with strut towers or even a strut brace being required

If someone can talk steeda into their original $999.95 + free shipping let me know as I'll probably jump then.

The land of commies and socialists!
After seeing the issues some have had with the steeda k member and also factoring in the obsurd price I think you guys need to start beating in BMRs door.

A few years ago they seemed to be heading down this path of retaining the modified McPherson strut setup.

Are you implying that coilover are not "fine"? And if so what makes you think there is an issue with them?

Even though it’s not a dedicated road race k member, the BMR is going to be difficult to pass up at the $199.95 pre order price....

Not at all, some people including myself do not like the idea of spring weight being applied to the shock towers. These cars were on the same chassis since 1979 and have always had coil springs perched between the K member and LCA.

I have never personally seen a strut tower failure or distortion FWIW

Reached out to Steeda to reattach the price. Here is what I got in response.....

Hello

I understand. This was a part that was discontinued. It is an expensive part to manufacture due to the number of pieces that need to be made and welded together. The regular price was $1099 before we discontinued it. The cost of materials has increased, and we must retool to build them. That is the reason for the cost increase. If anyone has questions, please let me know. Have a good weekend.

Lol the price on their website is still $999 with free shipping. Steeda regularly offers 10% off their products. Oh well I guess one of their Kmembers isn't for me.

I had very similar concerns years ago then a few thing changed my mind.

First I did a ton of searching trying to find shock tower failures. The only thing I found was 3 bolt cc plate failures on 94-04 cars.

Next I looked at articles about the old FR500 because the suspension was an SLA setup. Not a word was mentioned about changing the strut tower or strengthening it. I doubt all those engineers would sign off on it if there was a problem.

I looked at the benefits and drawbacks of them and found the biggest complaint was noise. This seemed to center around cheap coilovers though.

Lastly I called MM and talked with an engineer it might have been Jack H for some time about it. I specifically asked if he had seen any failure associated with coilovers. He told had not seen one that didn't involve and accident. The one failure he did see was a car the rolled multiple times and the cc plate had bent badly and one of the towers only deformed but did not separate itself from the car.

After all of that I pulled the trigger on a set and haven't looked back.

All the people bitching about the price need to add up all the MM gear and see what the cost is. When you go that route with coil-over's, new control arms, oil filter relocation, etc., you'll figure it out. As for the other kits on the market, you get what you pay for.

There's a bunch of info on my site - zero issues with the Steeda piece. Worth every penny.
