recently switched apartments, and had to pay to get the old one professionally steam cleaned. a few very small spots would not come out but I have to say overall the carpet looked great, so I was wondering about purchasing a small household steam cleaner to use when "accidents" first happen to try and keep this new (white) carpet nicer.

any suggestions in the $100-$200 range? my MIL has one but it's a piece...

Are you asking about a carpet cleaner or an actual steam cleaner? I bought a steam cleaner about a year ago for about $125, its not super awesome, but for the size does a decent job. I'll post up make and model when I get home.

I got that one a few years back, couldn't be happier. I clean my carpets every couple months. I picked mine up at BB and purchased the extended warranty with it when I got it.
