I was talking to the tech guy for UPR and he said that the speedo gear they have will work with either the 8 tooth T45 or the 7 tooth T45. I think he's wrong. If the same gear is used, it seems like there would be a %14 difference on the imput side which would absolutely affect the output side. I have a 98 Cobra, and to my understanding has a 7 tooth T45 and with 4.10's, I need a 23 tooth output gear (this will get me within 3% since there is no 22 tooth gear that I'm aware of). Can someone that knows what they're talking about please educate me?

This is the gear from UPG http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=395 .

^I've heard bad things about them, do you have one and is it accurate?

I also did the replacement gear and it was chewed up within a year. Put the stock ford gear back in, and a speedcal...and it is dead accurate! verified with gps. No prblems since. I recommend over the gear. you'll also get some phantom miles with the gear since it is not accurate.

A 23 tooth gear makes the speedo acurate within 3% with 4.10's, I can live with that. No one has answered my original question yet, anybody know about the tooth count on the input side?

I've had Steeda's 392-STE-17271-D White 23-tooth speedometer recalibration gear, for use with a 4:10 rear, installed for 30,000+ miles with no problems. With 295/30ZR18 tires on the rear the speedometer isn't off by any more than 2 MPH (a speedometer needle width!) @ 100 MPH.

What year is your car?

what year is your car?

My Mustang is a 1997 Cobra with stock T45 transmission.

You don't mention the year or model of your car, but based on your mention of the T45 transmission, here is the info from Steeda's website for their "recalibration gear":

"Manual Transmissions with 7 Tooth Drive Gear

1983-1989 T-5 OEM
Pre 1993 T-5 Aftermarket
1996-1998 Cobra T-45 OEM
All Tremec Transmissions "

which then translates to"
"392-STE-17271-D
Manual 7-Tooth 4.10 Ratio / White 23 Speedo Gear".
