I worked at Pep Boys in parts one summer and got this question a lot. Honestly, everyone in the service and parts area said the same thing -- a spark plug in itself won't give any significant power advantages and most are going to be comparable to one another.

HOWEVER, we sold a lot (and I mean a lot) of NGK plugs to modded imports AND domestics. They were especially popular w/ those running nitrous and looking for a colder spark plug.

For GM vehicles most went with AC Delcos, of course. But many of the GM enthuiasts went for the Bosch platinums (only ones I use) w/ a few going for the new, more expensive Bosch Platinums +4. Ford guys went w/ Bosch as well, but I sold more Autolite platinums to Ford owners than anything else.

I honestly think its a matter of opinion. Almost every mfg. claimed the best spark but to Bosch's credit they presented comparision test brochures to back up their claim. I think that's why they were the universal choice.
