I'm thinking about going with different sized tires front/back and need to know if a 245/255 is too narrow for the nine inch wide wheel.

I use to run nitto555 255/40/17 on cobra R wheels which is a 9in wheel on the front and 275/40/17 on back and look very nice in my opinion . The tire fit the rim almost perfect.

I have 255/40/17s on the front on 17x9 rims, and 315/35/17s on 17x10.5 rims in back and it looks awsome. the 255s are probably the smallest you want to go on the 9" rim They look good, but anything smaller will be stretching the sidewall, and not look to good. I could be wrong!! J/M/O

My winter tires are 255/40/17s and the rims are wider than the tires. So I don't think you want to go smaller than 255s.

Thanks for the replies.

I was actually thinking about going with 235's on front since goodyear, michelin, bf goodrich say that they will fit on a 9" wheel, but like you guys said, it might not look right.

I had visions of long lasting, great wet handling, inexpensive fronts with drag radials on the back :) , but maybe not.
