Hey guys trying to decide which tire to go with. Between ETStreets 28x11.5-15 or the Pros. It's a stick Hellion TT 3.31 and getting my tubes welded. Opinions wanted
Hey Torchy, how goes it?
The bias ply ET Street 28x11.5-15 is a 27.8" tall by 8.6" wide slick with grooves and a DOT number. If you are putting these on a 15x10 wheel, they will be stretched and a lot shorter than 27.8". If you are going with a 15x10" wheel, you need the 28x12.5-15 ET Street bias ply. That is a 28x10 slick with grooves and a DOT number.
The ET Street Radial pro is the best hooking drag radial on the planet at the moment. If you are planning on doing more street vs strip, I would recommend the bias ply ET Street. This will give your combo the best chance of hooking on the street from a roll, or dig with very little prep. However if you are planning on running track only, the Pro's will be tougher on driveline parts without upgrades.
Lastly, if at all possible, try to run a bias ply front if you plan on running the bias ply ET Streets. You will have just under a 28" tall tire on the front and a true 28" rear with the bias ply ET Streets on the back. I do not recommend running a 26" front tire with a 28" rear, way too much front end rake that kills weight transfer.
Just so people know which tires we are talking about, here's the info. Mickey Thompson # 3754 28x11.5-15 bias ply ET Street
I personally will be running the 3755 ET Street bias plies again, as I have run multiple sets of them in the past on other cars with great results. They are "street" legal in the eyes of the law. Just don't get caught in the rain with any of them.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the responses. I kinda would be ok with losing a little height in the rears which is why I inquired about the 11.50 instead of the 12.5. I am going 3.31 for future growth (built motor). Would the 11.5's look bad on a 10'' wide wheel?
Also where can I get bias ply front tires for front runners? Do they have balancing issues?
With a contact patch size of 8.6" wide for the # 3754 tire, if you put that on a 10" wide rim, the height will be shorter and the tire will be stretched on the wheel. With that tire having a real tread to sidewall definition/line, you would have the very top edge of the sidewall being forced to serve contact patch duty. Which in the long run is not good. It would probably put your installed height at 26.5" to 26.8"+/-.
I personally would not put that tire on a 10" wide rim as it's better suited for a 8" wide wheel.
Bias ply fronts, we have a four options, if you are using a 17" wheel. M&H Racemaster 26x4.5-17 P/N MSS017
Installed height should be dead on at 27" tall with full pressure.
If I had to choose between these options, I'd probably go with the M&H Racemaster front first, then the Phoenix second. This would give you the tallest tire and the best chance at full weight transfer with the least amount of front end rake.
Everytime I've run bias ply fronts, I've had zero issues with the tire shop balancing them using stick on weights mounted on the back side of the wheel. Just be careful not to hit any huge pot holes or take corners too fast. They are not meant for handling, just smooth and stable when going fast in a straight line.
One last thing, you definitely want as much sidewall wrinkle capability as you can get when you start launching your car with boost. That is why I highly suggest the 28" tall rear tires. Especially if you plan on building the bottom end and really turning up the power. Spend once and never look back.
And btw, that JLT CAI I got from you last year is working great. Thanks again for that deal.
Keep us posted on your ride and I can't wait to see some pics with your race wheels & tires on.
I totally forgot that you bought my JLT cai. That was a looong time ago lol. Glad it is still good! Big thanks on the responses man. I'm going to go 28x12.5 et streets. Also big help on the front runners. I'm going to go with those M&H 28's. I guess I'll just buy them through Jegs? I don't know where else to get them.
Feel free to vouch for me here Trying to sell a new Whipple kit.
Yep that was me.
I take it you got your oiling deal squared away?
With regards to who to buy from, it's kinda a crap shoot as sometimes Summit Racing will have a slightly cheaper price and other times Jegs does.
9 out of 10 times they have the exact same price to the penny. And the real kicker is, they almost always give free shipping and that's hard to beat.
Can"t wait to see your ride with the new shoes on it.
The Pros are a hard biting tire without much give in the sidewall at all. They should work great on a stick car if you're willing to slip the clutch.
If you want to put it on the step and dump it go stiff sidewall slick.
