So I bought my Contour in December and I have given some major TLC to it and its been, and will continue to be a great car.... but the transmission has never shifted correctly.

I jacked it up and what do I find? A 1/4" OD piece of hose holding a coke can tab in one of the 2 cables running from the shifter which seems to create slack.

Is this linkage suppossed to have slack.

I am in serious need of some guidance or a diagram.

please help.

Here is the best pic I could come up with..

I dont have pics of when I did mine a few weeks ago but thats what it is. Call either Steve at Tousley ford or Bill Jenkins and tell him you need both shift cable ends and it will be around $24.00 shipped for both. It will be like night and day differance.

so the cable is out!

**** ford!

seriously, if there is an easier way to do things, Ford had NOTHING to do with it.

tomorrow, the CSVT is back on the streets.

tear it up in San Antonio.

everything is factory tight, but i think i need to adjust the cables some how. i can scratch every gear, and reverse doesnt engage the reverse lights.

i think i might just have it looked at professionally.

any ideas guys??

the sales person at ford here told me the ends were only available as a part of the kit.

i guess i should have done my homework first.

Yeah dude thats why its called a STEELERSHIP, you could have gotten away with paying $24.00 (something) shipped and had them the next day and been done in no time thats with adjusting. I didnt have to adjust mine, it went on and I released the orange clip and they were tight as hell.

I dont go to the steelership for anything unless I absolutly have to. I go either to the junk yard, or call Steve at Tousley ford or Bill Jenkins. I went last friday to the steelership but I HAD to for ffw. And they didnt rape me.
