Let says we are finally going to war in Europe to repulse an occupation force from an ally.
The NATO ask you to provide them 3 Division sized elements or their service equivalent for Ground, Air, Sea and Space.
The assumption is that Mechanized and Urban combat will be a significant part of combat action. I don't want to overthink the scenario but just want to see your picks and why. Plus I want to see what each of you with experience from your Branch advises.
Also we already have 8 forward Battle Groups as part of NATOs hold the line strategy so you don't need to worry about additional shuffling of forces.
Also as important as logistics is, we will assume all support mechanisms and sustainment are provided.
Just give us some of your best killing machines to make bad guys have nightmares?
Some of my picks
Ground Force:
3rd Armored Division cause heavy metal
101st Airborne Division because of ability to move infantry and indirect fire assets all over the place at all hours in most weather. Tons of organic helicopters for the insertion, anti tank attack and ground support role.
10th Mountain Division because they are great in cold weather fighting and rough terrain and get some serious Urban fighting training.
Some Navy Guys toss us some assets. 3 carriers max to fight and rotate. Specific units?
Our Marines I am super curious who would be tossed into the fray.
Of all the forces out there Air Force and Space freak me out. What platforms would you use or what split. Say 25% F22, 25% F35S, 50% F16S. Again I flight refueling is part of the logistics.
While I include calling air lift a supporting effort at early stages it will in fact be the Main and critical effort. All NATO bases are yours so thebowrlss of my old Team Sergeant when the CAS asked if they were cleared to fire a danger close, 'Let 'er Rip 'tater chip!"
