???s on my wifes 5.0

Okay its an explorer, but I figured I'd ask you guys anyway before I dive in. Its a 97 5.0 all wheel drive, its got a howling/groaning from the front left. I dont think its break noise, never heard any break noise like this, more like a bearing noise, plus it doesn't go away when I ride the break and is in tempo with speed. I think it has sealed bearings that the axle shafts go through, and I'm planning on starting there. Just thought I'd ask my fellow stangers before I start turning wrenches on my wifes explorer.....don't laugh, Rob

Well, I really do not know much about 4x4's but you might have a bad CV joint. Since it is a 4 wheel drive I am assuming it has something similar to CV joints up front. Anyway that is a sound that is common with that failure.
