Routing coolant system?

Im looking at the MMR coolant cross over delete.
I was going to use it with the inline thermostat housing and get rid of the coolant tube that goes from the cross over to the Thermostat. Would there be anything else i would have to do to make this work. I have read about people drilling the thermostat but i don't understand why
