Most people go with either JohnnyLightningPerf.com Or Chickenears.com

Personally I owned the K&N and the plastic elbow warped on me.

I have jlp. Just get what you want they all fo the same thing

Well not really.

The JLP and the Chickenears are the only ones that actually duct cold (or ambient temp) air to the filter.
The exposed ones are better with a heat shield but will still draw in hot air from under the hood.
On a stock truck, the factory piece is as good as any. I have an old Ford Performance Truck magazine where they do some upgrades on an HD.
On a STOCK engine, The JLP was worth exactly 1hp. Once modified with a 6* lower and 2,9 upper, it was worth 14hp.

Personally, I have the Chickenears.

I had the JLP, but switched to an open filter setup from Air force one. I think more warm air is better then less cooler air.

Just my opinion.

^^that is cool.. so do you have to take the fun out to use the stage 3???

I take it you mean the fan?

As far as I know, no, you don't need to remove the fan or the shroud. There was nothing in the instructions to say that you have to although it does give more room.
I just happened to have an efan already fitted.

I run the JLT set-up and I do not see hot air all the time. I have a aeroforce gauge and monitor my IAT1/IAT2 continuously. Yes, at a stoplight the IAT1 will increase by about 10-20 degrees above ambient but as soon as you start moving in 30 seconds its back down to ambient temps.

I run a open filter setup. It's not one from any vendor. I just got a filter attached to the Maf. and that is all. No brackets to hold it in place as it sits up just fine.
