I got my drivers license in January 1984, the first tape that I played was Damn the Torpedoes.
Maybe the best 3 songs to open an album ever.
I still smile when I listen to the the full version of Even the Losers.
And side 2 is no slouch.

i was 9 years old when this song/video came out. my first experience with Tom Petty. i thought the video was weird but really neat at the same time. back when music videos were worth a damn

I think American Girl was played on one of my local college bar haunts more than any other song. So, everytime I hear it on the radio I am taken back to my college days.
