I don't know if this helps or not, but the one with the stickers all over it was sold as a ready to run version called the XB for Expert Built. The one without the stickers came as a kit that someone had to assemble from a box of parts. Both are on the TL-01 chassis, which was used by Tamiya for probably 20 different vehicles. The box you have and the manual go with the kit, as should the JR XR2 radio. Those things were blast back in the day.

Thanks for the info. I bought the truck with the stickers sometime back, as just the truck and remote by themselves. The plain truck and remote I bought at an SVT event. I believe the actual 1999 Lightning wasn't out yet. I had the truck put together by a hobby shop.
