dont shift at 7000 grand because by the time you do it its gonna hit 72000 which is not good for the motor, the valves and pistons haven't been made strong enough to last multiple 7 grand shifts, plus your outta the power band

Hmmm....7,000 grand is 7,000,000 rpm. Even 72,000 seems a little high for a stock cobra. If you have mods/tune, maybe you you could hit 72,000.

It's late and I'm easily amused. :burnout:

Fuel cut is 7050rpm's. Redline on the stock tach is 6800. I have my shiftlight going off at 6700 and has seen 7000rpms more then a few times and it runs just fine.

I meant 7 grand not 7000 (lol) is 7000 rpm, It was 1:30 in the morning give me a break, plus wouldn't you want to have a motor spin to 7,000,000 that be an awesome sight

The only reason I asked is because my tach in my 97 cobra red lines at 7000 RPM. And I thought that was alittle high but dident know because this is my first cobra. I would like to see some pics of a 97 cobra stock tach because I am not sure if the guages in my car are even the stock guages that came from the factory. and I dont want to be shifting at the wrong RPM and hurt the engine just because some jack ass put different guages in the car .

I remember when I was looking to buy my cobra. It already had 4.10 gears and I was trying to find a drag racer to trade me for 3.73's...lol. I was thinking it was going to be similar to a 5.0 car... boy was I wrong. One drive and I was thinking 4.56's.

shift by 6300-6500 or your wasting both time and engine life. 6800 is where the actual red starts on the tach and 7200 is where it'll start to kill your fuel.

Just as the general census sounds, the engine isn't gonna take too nicely to repeated fuel-shut offs.

This is about where my power begins to fall of on the dyno. However these cars need to stay in the higher rpm each shift to start off higher in the next gear unless you are running a 4.10+ gear. I personally shift at about 6500rpm.
