Can somebody shed some light on tightening up the rear suspension why would somebody change the bushings on the pumpkin? isn't it just the arms that locate the wheels and those bushings should be changed. the pumpkin really has nothing to do with locating the wheel. What does changing the pumkin bushings actually do?

The more rubber that you can replace with a stiffer material... the more your cars rearend will maintain the correct geometry when you are running the guts out of it. This is perhaps over simplifying it, but with the stock rubber bushings, the rearend will try to "flop" around under hard acceleration. This is not good for keeping your tires planted. If the car is used as a grocery getter, the stock bushings will be fine.

the diff is connected to the axles which are connected to the wheels. excessive movement of the diff can translate into wheel hop. reducing the amount of movement will reduce wheel hop, but at the expense of added noise and vibration into the cabin

Like the others said soft rubber bushings move around a lot. The entire cradle moving around hopping is creating the majority of the hop in the S550's which is why people are swaping to solid bushings or the BMR Cradle Lockout.

watch this video at about 1:30.. you can see the cradle moving all over the place.

Spend $160 on BMR's CB005.

It's REALLY easy to install, completely reversible, and totally changes the way the car hooks up. Wheel hop is gone, and it centers the cradle in the chassis. AND serves as a jacking point too!
